Peter Fury is a world class boxing trainer, who is part of the famous Fury family; he trained his nephew Tyson for many years, helping “The Gypsy King” to dethrone the mighty Wladimir Klitschko out in Dusseldorf in 2015.
As well as training Tyson from 2012-2017 however, Peter trains his son Hughie Fury, who narrowly missed becoming a heavyweight world champion on his first attempt, when he lost a majority decision to Joseph Parker back in 2017 (a decision that many dispute).
Aside from training nephew Tyson and son Hughie, Peter currently trains unbeaten female professional fighter – Savannah Marshall – who we had on the show just a few weeks ago!
In one of the questions we put to Peter, he believes that women’s boxing will be as big as men’s boxing in the near future, with fighters like Katie Taylor and his own Savannah Marshall leading the way and setting the precedent.
Our conversation with Peter was brilliant. Not only did he have so much knowledge and wisdom to share, but he also cracked a few jokes and offered an insight into boxing that you’ll only get from a man that’s been around the sport for such a long time.
Within this episode we speak about: What life lessons people get out of having done boxing, what fighters didn’t fulfil their fullest potential, what fighters we miss watching the most and much, much more. This is a fantastic episode for fighters and trainers alike; to really get behind the eyes of a world class boxing trainer.
We also discuss recent rumours about a potential match up with Hughie Fury and Dave Allen and cover all of the latest news/information regarding boxing during this COVID-19 period.
